James’ extensive experience spans member programs, philanthropic giving, sponsorship, public relations and marketing and management in the arts.

For five years, James was Executive Manager of Development with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, raising $15 million from sponsorship and philanthropy combined.

Prior to his current role, James was the WA Manager of the Australia Council’s philanthropy team, Artsupport Australia.

James is a graduate of the Executive Program for Non-profit leaders in the arts, Stanford University; holds a Graduate Certificate of Social Impact from UWA as a BHP Biliton Post-graduate Scholar; and is a past recipient of the Fundraising Institute of Australia Perpetual Scholarship.

James has lectured on ‘arts in contemporary society’ at WAAPA and has been an invited speaker at national conferences, seminars and universities. He has also published a number of articles on collaborative philanthropy.
